Parks & Conservation

Waterloo’s city centre is located near the intersection of King and Erb Street, a quick drive for our residents! On weekends, visitors can find various public events, shows or pop-up attractions in the city square.  This is also a popular area where buskers entertain, musicians perform, and students, family or friends can meet for coffee and conversation.

If you are looking to enjoy a day of scenery in the outdoors, then you are in luck; The Walter Bean Trail runs close to the Grand River through the cities of Waterloo, Cambridge, Kitchener and the Township of Woolwich. This Trail is popular for walking, cycling, rollerblading and cross-country skiing.

There are five main parks in the city. These include the following:

RIM Park

Home of the Manulife Financial Sportsplex and Healthy Living Centre, this park is visited by about more than one-million people every year. It also boasts a 500-acre facility that has a variety of amenities including a golf course, green lab, sports facilities, heritage elements and much more.

Bechtel Park

Bechtel Park boasts many outdoor sporting facilities in addition to wetlands, meadows and hardwood forest. The park also includes an off-leash dog park, and adjacent city-operated cemetery. In total, the park occupies 44 hectares (110 acres) of land.

Waterloo Park

Located in Uptown Waterloo, this destination contains historical buildings, a bandshell, animal displays, and the Lions’ Lagoon water park in its 45 hectares (110 acres). Waterloo Park is also known for its dynamic light displays during the Christmas holiday season, known as “Wonders of Winter”.

Lexington Park

Lexington Park is a popular destination for sports games and tournaments; it includes a ball diamond and a soccer pitch. A small change room and parking areas are also available.
